Bursaries (including Emergency Fee Assistance), on a sliding scale, are awarded to pupils who we believe will gain most from a Sarum Hall education, and who will contribute fully to the life of the school. Parents interested in applying for means-tested financial assistance are recommended to download and read the School’s Bursary Policy.
The provision of all financial assistance is at the sole discretion of the School and is subject to the means-testing rigour expected of independent schools by the Charity Commission. Both parents/guardians will be required to provide proof of their income and assets. The level of support varies according to a range of circumstances including assessed parental need and also to the level of funding available.
Entry to Nursery
Please note that financial assistance is only available for entry to Nursery in very exceptional circumstances, and the deadline for any such applications will be 31st March for September entry in the following year.
Entry to Reception–Year 6
If you wish to apply for bursary funding for entry into Reception–Year 6, the Bursary Application Form (available from the Bursary) should be fully completed and submitted directly to the Bursar together with all requested and applicable supplementary documentation. This is required in advance of your appointment with the Headmistress for entry the following September. At the same time a Registration Form should be completed on the website and associated fee should be submitted, if one has not already been submitted. Please note that we cannot consider Bursary applications for children for whom Registration Forms for a place at the school have not been received. You should also check with the Admissions Secretary whether there are places available in your child’s proposed year group prior to submitting a Registration Form.
Note that the registration fee will be refunded for unsuccessful bursary applicants who do not join the School.
Bursary applications will be considered on the basis of the information provided and the analysis of this will include a home visit from the school’s appointed representatives. Following receipt of their report, recommendations will be made to the Governing Body and decisions will be communicated by letter from the Bursar at the same time that academic places are awarded.
Once a bursary award has been made, it will be subject to an annual review.

Founded in 1929, the school has, since 1995, been housed in new purpose-built premises which provide excellent, spacious facilities, including a large playground, gym, dining room and specialist art, IT, music and science rooms, in addition to a French room, wellbeing room, multi-purpose room and individual music teaching rooms. The school has a purpose built Food Studio to support Food Technology teaching, as well as cross-curricular links and the opportunity to foster relevant and practical skills across the wider curriculum.
Girls are prepared for senior London day schools and for 11+ Common Entrance. The main point of entry is into the Nursery at 3+ where there is no assessment; occasional places further up the school are subject to an age appropriate performance in a short English and Maths test. The school is ambitious for its girls and believes that in a caring, supportive and imaginative environment, every girl can achieve her full potential. The pupils are encouraged to develop a set of transferable life skills that they can apply to a variety of scenarios, and develop as individuals with a sense of purpose in the school community and beyond. The school has a well-established record of scholarship and examination success; destination schools include Channing, City of London School for Girls, Downe House, Francis Holland, Godolphin & Latymer, Highgate, Mill Hill Foundation, North London Collegiate, Queen’s College, Queen's Gate, Queenswood, South Hampstead High School, St Helen’s, St Marylebone School for Girls, St Paul’s Girls and Wycombe Abbey.
A broad curriculum is followed and a major investment in IT ensures that each girl has access to the latest technology, which expands and enriches their educational provision. Languages are taught from Reception, Chess and a comprehensive games programme, which primarily takes place on site, ensures that girls have the opportunity to experience a variety of sports. We believe in offering a broad and balanced curriculum, therefore there is a strong emphasis on music, art, design and drama. Woodwind, violin, piano, cello and singing are offered. There are also two choirs, an orchestra and ensemble groups. Other extra-curricular activities include theory of music, fencing, junior and senior football, gardening, modern art, nature, netball, tennis, ICT, yoga, philosophy, photography, drama, craft, chess, cooking, classical civilisations, board games, dance and performance.
