Saint Nicholas is situated in a delightful rural location and combines a fresh and enthusiastic approach to learning with a firm belief in traditional values.
It is in the perfect location for professional families who want their children to benefit from an education in beautiful, countryside surroundings and require close links to Central London and the rest of the world.
The academic record of the school is excellent, reflected in high pupil success rates in all competitive examinations. The dedicated team of staff involves itself closely with all aspects of pupils’ educational progress and general development. While the academic core skills are at the heart of the school, Saint Nicholas School is dedicated to teaching pupils how to learn, instilling key learning skills, such as initiative, resilience, collaboration, teamwork and independent thinking. High standards of formal teaching are coupled with positive encouragement for pupils to reason for themselves and develop a high degree of responsibility.
The pupils follow the national curriculum which is adapted to provide more challenge and engagement. Pupils choose their GCSE options at the end of Year 8 and the school has recently introduced new GCSE subjects which include Astronomy, Business Studies and Photography.
As part of the school’s commitment to providing affordable, quality care to children in the community, Little Saints Pre-School opened its doors in September 2014 to children from 2½ years old and an onsite nursery, the Rocking Horse Nursery, has also recently opened, taking babies from as young as three months old.
The school has recently achieved a grading of ‘Excellent’ in all areas from the Independent School Inspectorate, and boasts superb facilities including extensive outdoor learning spaces. Facilities include magnificent junior and infant department buildings, a theatre, a science and technology centre, swimming pool and sports hall, and on-site catering facilities.
The school also has a Forest School and a large muddy discovery area set within our stunning grounds – they are a real strength of our provision and we recognise the importance of these areas and the learning opportunities they afford to enrich our children’s experiences.
Main sports include netball, rugby, tennis, football, cricket, swimming, athletics and gymnastics. There are many optional extracurricular activities available including ballet, individual instrumental lessons, karate, performing arts, sewing and a Law Society, to name but a few.
