St Joseph’s School, Launceston, is an award-winning independent day school for boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 16. Having been inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate in December of 2022, we would be delighted for your to read our report at www.isi.net/reports to get a clear view of the school as it is today.
St Joseph’s has a truly unique family atmosphere that is apparent from the moment you enter the school. The school’s small size means that it is possible both to keep sight of strong family values, giving children the confidence necessary to succeed, and to allow staff and pupils to work happily together. Due to the high teacher to pupil ratio, St Joseph’s is able to encourage each pupil to reach their full potential through positive encouragement and commendation. The ethos of care, compassion and community is integral to the daily life of the school and student voice is a genuine driver for change.
In both the Junior and the Senior sides of the school, St Joseph’s provides an excellent academic and pastoral education for all, regardless of ability and background. Our individualised academic curriculum runs alongside a wide variety of extra-curricular activities that challenge, stimulate and inspire all pupils to unlock their potential in a safe and supportive environment. St Joseph’s offers equal prospects to every child and it is the positive response to the school’s ethos that sees pupils rising to challenges both within the classroom and as highly valued members of the wider school community. High expectations and excellent relationships are key to success.
St Joseph’s GCSE pupils achieve superb results across the curriculum, and results both prior to and post the pandemic bear this out. The school regularly achieves results higher than those of academically selective schools at local and national level. This is a remarkable achievement as St Joseph’s is a non-selective school, meaning there is no entrance exam and admission is possible at any point during a child’s education. Fees are set at levels which offer great value for money, particularly in light of what is available to all pupils at the school, coupled with excellent academic results.
During the Covid-19 pandemic full online timetables were followed by all in the Senior School, with an engaging mix of live lessons and teacher interaction, while live teacher time and individualised work across the Junior School ensured high-quality learning continued throughout lockdown.
Academic and Sports Scholarships are offered from age 7+ and Music and Art Scholarships from 11+. Bursaries are available and considered on an individual basis.
An extensive daily bus service (currently 10 bus routes) allows pupils from a wide area across Devon and Cornwall to attend St Joseph’s.
St Joseph’s School offers a number of open events throughout the year for prospective parents. To arrange an individual visit please contact the Registrar.
