Facing south, on a 35-acre site, we have outstanding views over London. Since the Merchant Taylors’ Educational Trust took the School under its wing, impressive development has taken place. St John’s now has two completely refurbished science laboratories, a state-of-the-art Design & Technology Workshop including 3D printer, a set of sewing machines and sublimation printing equipment, an ICT Centre and a large Music Department. Outside the classroom, we have an all-weather multipurpose sports pitch, four rugby pitches and an athletics track, which have been levelled and provided with excellent drainage and irrigation. We also have an expansive nature trail and woodland area which is used by the Pre-Prep for Forest School on a daily basis and by older boys for ecological and environmental study. These areas are in addition to our extensive playing fields and formal gardens.
Our Pre-Preparatory Department provides dedicated Nursery facilities, an Information Technology Suite and Library. There are six purpose-built Pre-Prep classrooms in a self-contained area of the School leading to a covered outdoor play area and wooden climbing frame.
Recently completed is a brand-new two-floor sports hall with changing area and a dedicated site for our wraparound care providers. We have also recently introduced a purpose-built tree house which will benefit all pupils at St John’s.
Most of the boys enter the School at either the age of three into the Nursery or at four into the Pre-Prep; there is a separate entry into the Prep School at seven. St John’s has an excellent record of success in scholarship and senior school entrance examinations. Boys are prepared for all independent schools, but our links with Merchant Taylors’ School, Northwood, are particularly strong.
Although the School was originally a Church of England foundation, boys of all religions and denominations are welcome.
Charitable status. St John’s School, part of the Merchant Taylors’ Educational Trust, is a Registered Charity, number 1063738. It exists for the purpose of educating boys.
