From the moment a child enters St John’s, whatever their age, they are treated as an individual. Our aim is to ensure that learning, creativity and success are enjoyed by everyone and that when a child leaves our school, they have fully achieved their potential. Set on eight acres of land overlooking Lake Meadows Park in Billericay, St John’s is ideally located for public transport links and is only a five-minute walk from Billericay train station.
Pupils benefit greatly from lessons with specialist teachers. In the Kindergarten, children have lessons in Music, Singing, Computing, PE and visit our own Forest School. In the Junior School, pupils have additional specialist teachers for PE, Art, Music, Computing, and French and Spanish in Year 6. Senior School pupils follow a broad curriculum, which leads to GCSE courses commencing in Year 10. Subjects include English Language, English Literature, Maths, Statistics, Double Science, Triple Science, Art, Drama, French, Spanish, Geography, History, Sociology, Religious Studies, Music, PE, Food and Nutrition, Business and Computer Science. Pupils make excellent progress throughout the school and GCSE pass rates are consistently high. In 2024, 25% of pupils progressed to Grammar Schools for Sixth Form.
Sport is not only an integral part of our curriculum but also part of our extracurricular programme. Our Sport England standard Sports Hall hosts a wide range of activities including trampolining, table tennis, badminton and basketball, to name but a few. The school participates in ISA Regional and National sporting events.
A wide range of extracurricular clubs and activities are offered, including karate, cookery, ballet, dance, tennis and homework club. Pupils have the opportunity to participate in instrumental lessons, perform in the school orchestra and join one of the vocal groups. In addition, the performing arts are a pivotal part of our school, with fantastic success rates for our LAMDA examination entrants. A number of day and residential trips are offered each year.
A child’s education is one of the most important factors in their wellbeing and success. We instil all the virtues of politeness, integrity and consideration of others into our pupils.
Although our academic success over the years has been exceptional, we are equally proud that we have educated thousands of children who are confident, successful and who genuinely make a positive contribution to society when they leave.
Means-tested scholarships are available for Year 7 places in the Senior School. For more information and to arrange a tour of the school, please contact our Registrar on 01277 623070 or by email to registrar@stjohnsschool.net.
