The School was founded in 1989 to offer a traditional Grammar School standard of education to boys in Northamptonshire. Today, the School still offers the same high standards of education but to boys and girls from 3–18 years of age.
Thirty acres of beautiful parklands and outdoor sporting areas mean there is a real emphasis on being outside and enjoying nature. This emphasis is shown in our activities and extracurricular clubs and includes camp-outs in the grounds, marshmallow toasting, planting of new woodland areas and gardening.
Pastoral care. The School’s academic success is complemented by exemplary pastoral support. By keeping class sizes small, a friendly, family atmosphere is evident, allowing pupils to grow and develop in confidence as they progress through the School.
Admissions. Nursery, Reception, Year 7 and Sixth Form are the most common years of entry to the School, although pupils may be admitted in other years when required, if space is available.
Pupils are invited into school to spend a day with their current year group and carry out the school’s entrance assessment.
Learning support programmes are available where a need is identified and likewise stronger pupils can be challenged where needed. Pupils generally take 10 GCSEs before transferring to the Sixth Form at the end of Year 11.
The Sixth Form is structured to provide a stepping stone from the discipline of Senior School to the demands of Higher Education. Sixth Formers take a full part in the life of the School and are encouraged into positions of responsibility including mentoring younger years and leading House and Sporting events. A new Sixth Form Centre building will open in 2024.
Sport and extracurricular activities. Rugby, netball, cricket, rounders, swimming and tennis are just some of the sports played throughout the School. In addition, the School’s Cross Country Team enjoys ongoing success when competing against other Schools. The Pitsford Run is a well-known local event.
Junior School students have access to a huge variety of extracurricular activities – from the School Council, Eco Club, Choir, Cooking, Rugby, Netball, Arts and Craft, plus many others.
Senior School pupils have over 60 extracurricular activities to choose from – including Duke of Edinburgh award, Service and Adventure Programme, Astronomy and Engineering Club, Politics Club, Yoga, Musical Theatre, Robotics Club and many more.
Music. Music is an integral element of school life at Pitsford School.
Musical Recitals are held regularly in Pitsford Hall and in addition, the School holds termly evening concerts. Individual music lessons are available and encouraged in a wide range of instruments and group participation and performance opportunities include: woodwind, guitar, percussion, strings, sax and flute ensembles and two choirs.
A number of Junior and Senior performances take place throughout the year, ranging from plays to musicals. The most recent production is The Wizard of Oz.
Charitable status. Northamptonshire Independent Grammar School Charity Trust Limited is a Registered Charity, number 298910.
