Delivering a rich, mainstream curriculum, the largest school in the country for pupils with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD), including Dyslexia, Developmental Language Disorder and associated special educational needs. The school’s vision is to lead in transforming the futures of its pupils by empowering them.
More House School in Frensham, a registered charity, is rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in all aspects of its provision following an integrated inspection, and a further Boarding and Welfare inspection, in 2023. The school is also registered with The Council for the Registration of Schools Teaching Dyslexic Pupils and was judged in October 2024 as meeting the criteria in all areas for supporting its pupils with SpLD. ‘It is a special place which has really thought about what works for their pupils and consistently works to meet the needs of the boys in their care. More House pupils are far more than their learning difficulties and the “Beyond the Label” approach is testament to the hard work the staff do to instil self-belief, ambition and a strong work ethic in the pupils.’ (CReSTeD)
The school, for boys aged 8 to 18, is nationally recognised as a centre for excellence in supporting pupils with specific learning and language difficulties. It also offers training in special educational needs for educational professionals across the region and nationally.
Founded 85 years ago, the school prides itself on using the best modern practices to provide high-quality education and pastoral care within a specialist learning environment. Pupils learn to discover and celebrate their strengths, increasing their self-esteem and confidence and equipping them with the tools they need to fulfil their potential at GCSE, A-Level and other public examinations. Students leave the school with the skills and understanding necessary to be independent and active members of society, with many progressing to university.
The boarding provision is run by supportive staff and strives to help every child and young person to mature and thrive as part of a caring and happy shared community.
The school's extensive co-curricular timetable encourages both day boys and boarders to make good use of their leisure time. There is a strong sense of community.
Facilities are good across all departments and there is an ongoing programme of building development.
