Leehurst Swan is an independent day school, just a 10-minute walk from Salisbury city centre, which has been inspiring and educating pupils for over 100 years. We are the only independent day school in Salisbury offering education for girls and boys from Reception to GCSE. The benefits of an all-through education are widely recognised, eliminating the problems of transfer between the stages of education.
Our mission is to encourage every pupil to find their voice. Everything we do is carefully sculpted to create a community of learners with character, passion, resourcefulness, independence skills, knowledge and qualifications. So everyone can become the best possible version of themselves and make a great contribution to a challenging world.
We love that every child is different. It’s our privilege to help each child to find their voice and shine.
Children surprise themselves when they try something new. Seeing a bashful child confidently take to the stage, or an academic child take joy in sport, is rewarding for us all.
In the Senior school we offer a fresh approach to GCSE options with our ‘Find Your Voice’ curriculum, by offering, alongside the core subjects of English language, English literature and mathematics, the choice of seven subjects from a list of 17. In Year 9, our pupils have an exciting choice of subjects to choose from which are not limited by option blocks and allow our pupils to choose any combination from four sciences (computer science, physics, biology and chemistry); four creatives (music, drama, photography and art); three modern foreign languages (German, French and Spanish); three humanities (history, geography and religious studies); alongside additional choices of business studies, design technology and physical education.
At Leehurst we believe that education is not about forcing pupils to fit a pre-determined mould. Uniqueness matters and, as a school, we encourage all pupils to ‘find their voice’ and explore their passions and potential; preparing them to be adaptable in an ever-changing world. Our bespoke approach empowers pupils to be fully involved in their education, increasing their chances of success and enabling them to realise their potential and fulfil their dreams.
The size of our school means that all of our staff get to know each of our pupils. We all work together to share information and insight and, as a result, we’re able to provide levels of individual support and guidance to pupils and their families.
School is an emotional as well as an academic journey and we are with you every step of the way.
In our last inspection, Leehurst Swan achieved the grade of ‘Excellent’ in every aspect of educational quality; the highest possible outcome from the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI).
The inspectors reported, ‘The quality of the pupils’ personal development is excellent. Pupils of all ages are happy and confident individuals who feel supported by the school community.’
Further comments included: ‘The quality of the pupils’ academic and other achievements is excellent. Pupils of all ages make excellent progress.’
In 2020, the Regulatory Compliance Inspection found that Leehurst Swan was compliant in all components of the Compliance Inspection and that GCSE performances (for years 2017–2019) were reported to be ‘above the national average for maintained schools’. Inspectors stated that our ‘teaching enables pupils to make good progress, encompasses effective behaviour management and is supported by suitable resources’.
Leehurst Swan welcomes visitors to the school to come and see them at work and play.
