Kingsley Devon, which is a co-educational boarding and day school accommodating pupils between the ages of 2 and 18, is wholeheartedly dedicated to promoting positive mental health and wellbeing for each of its students, with an aim to achieving both academic success and happiness. Such level of commitment makes it an excellent choice for families within and outside the United Kingdom, who share the belief that every child is unique and deserving of personalised attention and support.
As a relatively small school of around 420 boys and girls from Nursery to Sixth Form, Kingsley’s atmosphere is like a large family where everybody knows each other well. The school’s philosophy encourages personal qualities such as courage, generosity, honesty, imagination, tolerance and kindness. In addition, we develop the students’ broader interests and skills in sport, music, outdoor education, surfing, art, and drama. Overall, a Kingsley education develops each student’s individual character and talents both inside and outside the classroom.
Location. Kingsley is located in the vibrant coastal town of Bideford, a historic port beside the River Torridge in beautiful North Devon. Positioned at the heart of a UNESCO Biosphere, and with the beaches and rugged coastline right on its doorstep, Kingsley’s setting inspires a truly holistic education, one where coastal adventures, outdoor education, happiness, and personal growth are valued just as highly as academic achievement. With easy access to the Exmoor and Dartmoor National Parks and a direct link to the M5 via the North Devon Link Road, Kingsley offers both a stunning natural environment and strong national connectivity.
CReSTeD Kingsley is proud to be the only school in the South West accredited by CReSTeD (the Council for the Registration of Schools Teaching Dyslexic Pupils), a recognition of our outstanding and globally respected provision for students with specific learning difficulties, including dyslexia. This accreditation reflects our deep commitment to inclusive education and our expertise in supporting neurodiverse learners within a mainstream, whole-school environment.
Academic Achievement. Proudly non-selective, Kingsley delivers outstanding outcomes - 30% of GCSEs at grades 7–9, one third of A Levels at A or A, a Distinction average in BTECs, and a +0.2 value-added score - while being the only CReSTeD-accredited school in Devon and Cornwall for dyslexia support. Our focus on future skills and innovation is recognised nationally, with Kingsley one of just four schools in the UK to hold the GOLD Space Education Quality Mark.
Sporting Academies. Kingsley’s Sports Academies in Rugby, Football, Netball, Gymnastics, and Judo reflect our ambition to lead in UK school sport. Each academy offers elite coaching, academic support, and leadership development within an inclusive and nurturing environment. Our Rugby Academy provides clear pathways to professional clubs, with top-level coaching and national competitions like Rosslyn Park 7s. In football, our partnership with the Ferdinand Collective delivers world-class training and access to the prestigious FC Rise | Kingsley 1st XI. The Netball Academy fosters talent and teamwork through competitive leagues and the PGL Tour, while our Gymnastics Academy has produced national medallist's and international competitors. Meanwhile, our inclusive Judo Academy - led by one of the UK’s top coache - offers structured grading, leadership awards, and British Judo Association pathways, supporting students of all abilities to thrive on and off the mat.
Coastal Adventures. At Kingsley Devon, surfing is woven into school life. We’re proud to be the first and only Surfing England Surf School of Excellence, setting the standard in surf safety and education. All students from Year 7 upwards develop water confidence and surf safety skills through inclusive, age-appropriate lessons. For those keen to go further, our Surf Academy offers year-round access to advanced surfing, skateboarding, shaping, and media production, plus qualifications like the RLSS Beach Lifeguard and Surfing England Level 1 Coaching Certificate.
Complementing this, our year-round Coastal Adventures programme rotates through surfing, paddle sports, climbing, forest school, and expedition skills. Surf-focused students meet the same learning goals through an ocean lens - learning to read forecasts, understand tides, and plan around swell - building lifelong skills and a deep connection to the sea.
Earth Centre. The development of the Earth Centre offering, based in the heart of Devon’s UNESCO biosphere, is a destination for excellence in educating and developing students to be future leaders and experts in environmental protection and sustainability. Environmental sustainability is of significant importance and is seen as an integral part of the curriculum and the way Kingsley School is run and operated. In particular, climate action, biodiversity restoration and nutrition from healthy food are at the forefront of the schools' policy on environmental sustainability. Through its investment in the Earth Centre concept, Kingsley is driving its school operations towards carbon neutrality, investing in ecology zones to restore and enhance biodiversity on its school sites; and developing commercial-scale market gardens to provide nutrient-dense healthy food for its pupils and the wider community. These activities also aim to cultivate a range of academic and vocational skills relevant to the environmental challenges we face and the new career opportunities that become available.
