King’s House School is a mixed-ability inclusive independent day preparatory school in Richmond for children aged 2 to 13. Founded in 1946, we provide a happy and relaxed environment for our pupils, where they can thrive and flourish. We offer a broad and balanced education to all our pupils, enabling them to discover their unique talents and passions. The school welcomed girls for the first time in September 2024 as it transitions to full co-education.
King’s House Nursery opened in 2009, providing a wealth of resources to inspire little minds and create a love of learning. The team of highly experienced staff help children to become independent, to settle into nursery life and to develop key social skills. Children move up to Reception ready for their next steps at school.
A broad curriculum ensures that pupils explore their different interests, and specialist teaching starts in the nursery with Computing, PE, Music, Drama, yoga and French lessons. By the time they reach the Senior Department (Years 4–8), pupils enjoy a wide range of specialist subjects across the arts, science, humanities, sport and much more. Pupils move onto a huge range of senior schools at 11 or 13, including day, boarding, single sex or co-ed. Staff work closely with families to find the right school for each child.
Pastoral care is at the heart of the King’s House community, where children who are happy can thrive and succeed. The positive relationships that we enjoy with our parents, the local community and charities are all key to the pupils’ sense of responsibility. We aim to ensure that the school keeps pace with global developments so that pupils are ready to take their place in an ever-changing world. When pupils leave us, they are not only armed with outstanding academic results, but also with a sense of self-awareness, respectfulness and independence. Academic success is a result of the happy atmosphere of King’s House, which allows pupils to simply be themselves.
The school is based on three sites on Richmond Hill and also benefits from its own 35-acre sports ground in Chiswick. King’s House is a mixed-ability inclusive school at our two main entry points, Nursery and Reception. All children in the Nursery are guaranteed a place in Reception. There are also intakes at 7+, 8+, and 11+.
