Set within one hundred acres of lawns, lakes and woodlands in the idyllic New Forest close to the sea, Walhampton is a remarkable independent day, flexi and full-time boarding school for boys and girls aged 2–13.
With small class sizes and innovative teaching, Walhampton pupils achieve consistently impressive academic results. Walhampton's Year 8 leavers recently gained entrance to Brighton College, Bryanston, Canford, Durlston Court, King’s Bruton, King Edward VI, Embley, Sherborne, Radley College, Royal High School Bath and Winchester College. Walhampton pupils have a 100% success rate in senior school admissions, with 45% awarded scholarships across a variety of disciplines.
A Walhampton education allows children to be children for longer whilst also preparing them for their life after Walhampton and in the world of tomorrow. Pupils are encouraged to find their voice and develop the strength of character through the Pre-Senior Baccalaureate (PSB) framework and CE curriculum, and the School’s focus on nurturing curiosity and global thinking instils passion and purpose.
Digital learning and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) features highly with STEAM and Boat Modelling challenges and competitions. The School's location and facilities enables Walhampton to offer a broad, holistic and dynamic curriculum, which stretches beyond the classroom. Lessons are also taught in the permanent outdoor classroom, in Forest School, by the lakes and in the kitchen garden, bringing subjects like Maths, English, History and Science to life while making sure sports, music and the arts flourish alongside academic disciplines.
Walhampton has one of the ultimate prep school settings and offers a varied programme of enrichment activities during the timetabled “SPARK” curriculum (Society & Service, Play & Train, Adventure & Exploration, Radical, Kindle & Create) as well as after school activities. The SPARK sessions reinforce the School’s focus on the outdoors and eco-school Green Flag status with activities including gardening club, beekeeping, conservation groups and cookery. A central part of our programme includes a range of sports undertaken in our grounds such as our Rugby and Netball Academies, horse riding in our dedicated equestrian centre, watersports and fishing on our lakes, and sailing at our partner club in Lymington. Performing arts activities such as orchestra and LAMDA also help to further our children’s passions.
The network of daily bus routes for local day pupils; wraparound care (breakfast and supper clubs); and popular flexi boarding are all designed to support families with busy lives. For those considering a Walhampton education but living further afield, the Walhampton Express brings this remarkable country school closer. The escorted train service stops at mainline stations from Brockenhurst to London Waterloo. Boarding staff collect children on Sunday evening and escort them on Friday after chapel. Full, weekly and flexi boarders enjoy the relaxed and homely, family orientated atmosphere of Bradfield House, surrounded by stunning grounds with views over the Solent to the Isle of Wight.
