Hall Grove is a happy, vibrant school of over 420 boys and girls aged 3–13 with a separate pre-school in its grounds for those aged 3 and 4. Weekly/Flexi boarding is offered for up to 21 pupils. The main entry ages are 3, 4, 7 and 11.
The school was founded in 1957 by the Graham Family; Alastair Graham is Principal of the school. At its centre is a most attractive Georgian house set in beautiful gardens and parkland. Recent additions have provided some modern rooms and specialist teaching areas, an impressive computer facility and new classroom blocks. Despite this building programme, the character and atmosphere of a family home has been retained.
The academic standards are high and there is a very strong emphasis on Sport and Music. A wide range of activities flourish: woodwork, ceramics, food technology, drama and a host of major and minor sports including soccer, rugby, hockey, netball, rounders, cricket, tennis, athletics, swimming, golf, judo, basketball, badminton and dance. Riding and stable management is an added attraction.
Under the leadership of new boarding parents, Hall Grove completely refurbished their boarding facilities and the boarding house consists of 21 beds, in six themed rooms. Boarders enjoy the modern, airy environment at the top of the main school house. They also enjoy the freedom to explore the extensive grounds and use the facilities including the swimming pool, riding stables, forest school, performing and visual art blocks, and the sports fields.
Boarding nights take place for year groups from Year 3 upwards. Regular boarders enjoy in-house events as well as local visits and excursions. The boarding house has been designed to cater for weekly boarders and flexi boarders, booked in for one to four nights a week. Some parents and children like to use the boarding facilities to prepare them for their year group visits to the School’s off-site house in Devon, Battisborough House. Boarding is also useful preparation for children heading away to their Senior Schools where boarding may be an option.
Hall Grove has its own residential field study centre situated on the South Devon coast called Battisborough House and there are many field trips and expeditions both in Devon and overseas. Battisborough is available for hire by other schools and can accommodate up to 60 in comfort.
