Grange Park Preparatory School is a long established, happy and successful school that provides a broad and stimulating education. It is situated in the pleasant residential area of Grange Park.
We remain committed to educating boys and girls in a small school with small class sizes, thus allowing each child to be known as an individual. The children enjoy a broad curriculum taught by experienced staff who encourage excellence in all areas of school life.
We have a Nursery class for boys and girls aged 3 and 4. Nursery staff and children have access to the excellent resources available at GPPS, including outside space, the gym and a cooked lunch for those children staying the whole day. The children follow the Early Years Curriculum with additional specialist teaching in French, Dance, Drama and Music.
In KS1, the children are taught mostly by form teachers with specialist teaching being introduced gradually in KS2. From Reception, specialist teachers teach PE and Games, French, Music, Dance and Drama. Individual music tuition is also available from Reception.
In Key Stage 2, preparation for 11+ state selective and independent secondary schools starts from as early as Year 3, where children undertake verbal and non-verbal reasoning as part of the curriculum. In addition, from the spring term in Year 4, children wishing to sit for selective schools attend extra prep classes, thus equipping them with the tools to achieve their maximum potential in terms of academic attainment. Every year we are proud to announce that our Year 6 children do extremely well in the secondary school entrance exams, with some being awarded scholarships.
Children enjoy a very busy school life and benefit from an excellent variety of extracurricular activities, including LAMDA, Judo, football, tennis, gymnastics, cookery and chess to name a few, further enriching their experience and creating lifetime memories.
The school has a healthy eating policy. Lunches are cooked in school using only fresh ingredients; no processed food is used. There is always a vegetarian and vegan option and salads and fresh fruit are available daily.
Places for Reception are offered after the Headteacher has met with parents and their child. Children taking up chance vacancies in other classes will be invited to spend a day in school to ensure they will fit into the class successfully.
Before leaving GPPS, every child will have been given a responsible role at some level, instilling in them a sense of duty and ingrained confidence, preparing them for today’s challenges.
