Scholarships and bursaries – further details
Bursaries are awarded at the discretion of the College, following a comprehensive means-tested assessment of the family’s household and commercial position (e.g. their savings, investments and releasable assets, as well as their income, the size of their family, any other dependents and like factors). As a guide, if the application is for one child and the annual combined household income, after deductions, is less than £80,500 then an application for assistance will be considered, but the award will depend on net disposable income and the means and ability to pay the fees.
Up to 110% support is available dependent on financial means. The amount of bursary award is not influenced by the level of the academic ability of the child but by the extent of need. Each case is assessed on its own merits and awards are made accordingly, subject to the funds the College has available for bursaries.
For families keen to apply for a scholarship for their child, but concerned about affording the fees, we would encourage you to apply for a means-tested Financial Assistance Award at the same time. Please be assured that the Scholarship Programme and Financial Assistance Award applications are considered entirely separately and the need for financial assistance does not influence the outcome of the scholarship application.

Academic qualifications are a prime focus for us, yet we know that qualifications alone will not suffice for a life fully lived. Together, qualifications and qualities are what an education for today and tomorrow must deliver.
There are opportunities. So many opportunities. In the classroom, on the sports fields, in the clubs and societies. We offer every pupil the chance to unearth new talents and to develop valuable life skills.
Underpinning everything is a strong, community spirit that empowers each pupil to thrive and succeed. We have created a community of togetherness where none of us is as important as all of us.
These days, standing still is moving backwards. Bishop’s Stortford College is not standing still. We are the modern face of independent education.
Charitable status. The Incorporated Bishop’s Stortford College Association is a Registered Charity, number 311057. Its aims and objectives are to provide high-quality co-educational independent day and boarding education for pupils from age 3 to 18.
